Debbie Collins
Finance Director & Freelance Holistic Therapies Practitioner

Before joining St Paul’s, Debbie spent over 30 years in senior finance roles across large corporate organisations.

But in 2016, she wanted to use those skills for something more meaningful – and that’s when she joined the team here as Finance Director.

It’s been a rewarding time for Debbie who still looks after the charity’s financial wellbeing, but these days her work is about more than numbers.

She is passionate about people’s wellbeing and spends her weeks delivering holistic services including mindfulness and hypnotherapy sessions to residents and staff.

For Debbie, it’s about supporting the whole person – whether that’s through a spreadsheet or a moment of calm.

I have been a part of St Paul’s Hostel since 2010 and have had the privilege of meeting many homeless people in this time.

I have seen the hostel and its ethos change and evolve; gained knowledge and understanding and am particularly proud of us adopting a trauma informed approach.

Recognising that the guys who come to live at St Paul’s have often experienced multiple traumas in their lives, through no fault of their own, has opened new avenues for the residents to explore their past and build resilience.

The take up of residents accessing the service has increased dramatically over the years (from 2 hrs/week to virtually full-time) which in itself is evidence that change is a desire and the need for a therapeutic approach is paramount.

Claire
Claire

Before joining St Paul’s, Claire managed a busy care and events venue. While she always felt compassion

for people who were experiencing homelessness, she had little knowledge of the deep-rooted issues behind it.

Since starting at St Paul’s, Claire has learned that addiction is often caused by trauma, mental health struggles, and lost opportunities. She’s proud of how quickly she’s adapted to her role, and how naturally she supports both residents and colleagues.

St Paul’s gives Claire a sense of purpose and she believes it’s where she’s meant to be, now and in the future.
